Fjorden Baby!

Prepare yourselves for some local Bergen rock in the blog today!  The guys in Fjorden Baby! managed to  get street artist DOLK to illustrate the cover and the inlay for their album  "Se deg rundt i rommet" (ie "Take a look around the room") (Fjorden Biznizz 2011). This is DOLK´s first record cover, and I guess I should get the vinyl version to get some size to the art (so far I have only bought files, and  hope that makes it OK to take a picture in the shop  of the inlay).

And the music is OK to, think Manchester and Happy Mondays or thereabout? At least that is what most reviewers already said, and the splattervideo for the track "Rendezvous" below makes me think of the "colorful" Stone Roses.

The Norwegian all round saxophone player (from free jazz to Datarock) Kjetil Møster may be heard on two tracks too.

DOLK shopping

A comment in the Norwegian street art blog Mot Veggen, made me aware of three DOLK stencils in a clothes shop in Bergen. I found "Riot Cops" (Hiding behind sweathers! Some cops!) ,  Sylvester Stallone in "Love Hurts" and "Che" with red T-shirt.

Untitled.III

Then there were three "Untitled" books, this time with the subtitle "This is Street Art" (Carpet Bombing Culture, 2010). Just as in  "Untitled" and "Untitled. II" we get lots of great street art, and this time lots of Banksy! The words are still not supposed to have anything to do with the pictures, but the book is a quite nice read ("witty" might be the word here).

Nothing from Bergen this time (as far as I can see), but Stavanger (Swoon), Oslo (DOLK) and Lofoten (DOLK, Pøbel) are all represented. You already know I  am usually focusing on Norway, and here I couldn´t do anything else, even if I wanted to. A list of the names of the artists and the photographers,  that´s all we get, and the pages where we may find the pictures. Pity then, that the book is not paginated.

Street artist DOLK is represented in an exhibition happening right now, showing Bergen artists.
Here we may even see how he makes his stencils.

Robert Wyatt in French

I have mentioned this book in a previous blog post, but now It´s finally here: "Robert Wyatt" by Jean-Francois Dréan (photo) & Philippe Thieyre (text) (Éditions des Accords 2009). The book is in French (unfortunately - for me at least), but more than half of the pages are covered by great black and white photos, lots of them portraits of Wyatt.
I promise I´ll try to read it, but so far it looks like the usual biographical stuff with inspirational sources, living in Louth, discography, Alfie´s work and so on. And that´s OK with me.
I also see that Robert and Alfie have a copy of Bergen artist DOLK´s Che on one of their walls ("Smoking cures stress").
I bought my book at amazon.fr.

Untitled. II

Yesterday I found "Untitled. II. The Beautiful Renaissance" (Pro-Actif Communications, 2009) in my post box. It is a good collection of pictures of street art, with words that, according to the authors, are "only included to keep the pictures company and make us look cleverer than we really are". DOLK and PØBEL´s Desolate Decoration project in the Lofoten area of Norway is well covered, and there are lots of pictures from Bergen too (among others 1, 2). See also the previous book called "Untitled. Street art in the counterculture".
Buy at your local book store or at Amazon.

Untitled

Recently I got the book "Untitled. Street art in the counterculture." (Pro-Actif communications, 2008) from Amazon. This is a nice collection of street art from all over the world (well, that's pushing it a bit). Gary Shove is the editor, the text is by Patrick Potter and design is by Sharon Jones. The pictures speak for themselves, and you don't get a lot of info on the artists or where the pictures are taken. For one reason or the other, there are several pictures from Bergen (Norway), and a couple of them (1,2) are even credited to people like "Svenn Nevenn" and "Sven Neven".

Urban art goes rural

Street artists Dolk and Pøbel have been working in the north of Norway, in Lofoten. This time they are illustrating old abandoned houses. See picture gallery of trolls on the needle and Superman on dialysis from NRK Nordland here!

Added 20 September 2008: From newspaper "Aftenposten" (play slide show).

Wheelchair DOLK

Street artist DOLK made this one on commission (covers a whole wall). I see it two ways:
1: Wheelchair user dreams he is walking.
2: Wheelchair user is sleepwalking, and he really is able to walk.

Play the people!

I wrote about the Oi Oi Festival in Bergen in May, and I just have to show you the "Folkofon" instrument. You may play the Folkofon (meaning "Peopleophone") here. "Klikk her først" = "Start by clicking here", then play with the keyboard. See if you find this guy!

DOLK and Wyatt

Street artist DOLK has not made a Wyatt yet, but there's still hope (I guess). Today we present some links related to these guys:
All things Dolk on the wiki GiantOrg.
MyViews a blog with lots of street art.
The Human Equation, a blog with lots on Robert Wyatt.
Totally Fuzzy, a blog where you may find MP3-files and concert videos (John Cale, Maria McGee, Van Der Graaf Generator).
A smart guy at The Guardian is already listening to a promo copy of the next CD from Robert Wyatt.

Exhibition, Bergen, Norway

Today I went for a walk in Bergen, looking for Street Art. You may find some more on Flickr, also collected in my set "Arty". Che and the man hiding the red heart are made by DOLK. The other two are signed by "Thing", and maybe "STAG" is a signature?
